Expectations vs. Reality
If you've ever felt stuck in life, you're going to want to read this.
I recently had a conversation with a man who went from being an entrepreneur to a full time employee, now back to an entrepreneur. I asked him why he switched from being an entrepreneur to being an employee the first time and he said, "I thought the grass was greener, but I wasn't. As soon as I transitioned to the new lifestyle, I felt like I was not walking in my truth."
There's nothing wrong with being an employee or an entrepreneur but one thing we can take away from this statement is:
Our expectations of life and what is actually presented to us in reality are usually different.
- Expectations can be defined as those that are regarded as likely to happen.
- Reality can be defined as the state of things as they exist.
When we encounter a reality that is the opposite of what we expect, somewhere in the back of our minds, we experience frustration. It's the equivalent of feeling like we've failed or are not moving forward in life.
But here's the key to solving this type of situation...
Challenge yourself to reframe your expectations and accept your reality so you can move onward and closer to what you expect.
It's an unorthodox approach to goal achievement but the sooner you accept where you are now, no matter how low you may feel, the easier it is to move onward.
There is nothing wrong with having high expectations, just understand they're subjective and take time to achieve. Just because reality doesn't agree with you now, doesn't mean at some point your reality will reach your expectations.
